Meet Jennifer Rooney @jrooneydance, Choreographer for our new production of 'Follies' coming to @gohbelfast, Belfast this September. Jennifer has worked with Northern Ireland Opera numerous times in the last few years, including on our award-winning production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's 'Into The Woods' both at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast and when it travelled with a new cast to West Australian Opera in 2023. She has worked on several of our recent operas including both the Juniper Tree and Eugene Onegin in 2024. We're off to @theeverymancork in early June with 'La Voix Humaine', performed by @marymccabesoprano with @davidquigleypianist. Our acclaimed production of this legendary one-woman, one-act opera by Poulenc has been touring to locations around Northern Ireland since 2023 - we're so excited to be taking it to the stunning Everyman in Cork in just over a month's time on Thursday 5 June. It's still a few months until we're back in beautiful Glenarm for this year's 15th Festival of Voice, but our friends at Glenarm Castle have an wonderful seasonal event on this week and weekend which will delight the gardeners amongst you and which includes events for all the family. The Tulip Festival will be taking place on the May Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th May) There’ll be all the wonderfully, colourful tulips and spring flowers to see in the Walled Garden, expert advice from professional gardeners, children’s entertainment (including an appearance from Squishmallows on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th!), craft stalls and delicious food and drink. The Tulip Festival Pre-Show starts tomorrow, Tuesday 29th April and runs to Friday 2nd May, for those garden enthusiasts who would like to look around the displays and talk to the experts at their leisure. Our free Easter Week Music and Theatre Skills programme finished on Friday - here are just a few more photos from some of the activities which the children took part in. From creating characters and costume designs, making bird props for Papageno, discovering the skills used in stage make-up and prosthetics, singing, movement and choreography, our fantastic facilitators have covered a lot of ground! Thank you to all the children who took part in this week-long programme who came from more than eight different local schools and made new friends through the week as well as learning lots of new skills. Thank you to St John The Evangelist for hosting us, to @bobbiraipurdy and Gerard Kelly for devising, planning and running this busy week of activities and to @gillian.lennox01 , Liz Cullinane, Debra Hill, Paula O'Reilly, @darrenfranklin645 Ryan Greer and Toni Campbell for their brilliant workshops. Our Easter Week Holiday Scheme has got off to a flying start with mask-making and drama work - and lots and lots of fun. Still to come this week: singing, choreography, stage make-up and prosthetics and lots more! We're exploring all sorts of skills that are used to bring a show to the stage, working with fantastic facilitators led by NI Opera's Community Outreach Coordinator @bobbiraipurdy and Gerard Kelly. This scheme is taking place in St John the Evangelist on the Falls Road, following a highly successful Halloween Scheme last year in St Finnian's, East Belfast and a Summer Scheme the year before in the Duncairn Arts Centre. These week long free programmes build theatre skills and confidence amongst the children who attend - and make lots of new friends too! Full details via the linktree in our bio.
