Bríd Ní Ghruagáin

A Dublin-based mezzo, Bríd recently appeared as Zita in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. Opera roles include Witch/Mother in Hänsel und Gretel; Ericlea in The Return of Ulysses, Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress, Mistress Quickly in Falstaff; La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica; Mrs Grose in The Turn of the Screw; Mrs Noye in Noye’s Fludde; and Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte.

Bríd created the role of Leah in Neil Martin and Glenn Patterson’s Long Story Short: the Belfast Opera for NI Opera and Belfast Buildings Trust. In 2022 she creates the role of Ffrench in Paper Boat by Elaine Agnew and Jessica Traynor for Irish National Opera and Music for Galway.

Bríd premièred Amanda Feery’s As Above, So Below for mezzo and percussion quartet; Beneath Iseult’s Tower commissioned by Contemporary Music Centre; and The 24hr Opera for Opera Theatre Company. She premièred Neil Martin’s song cycle, Songs After Rain, for HRH the Prince of Wales. Bríd is an alumna of INO Opera Studio and ENO Opera Works.
