The recent loss of Stephen Sondheim is an incalculable one to music and to theatre. Of our new production of 'Into The Woods', which we are announcing today, our Artistic Director Cameron Menzies says “We will endeavour to create a wonderful tribute to one of the greatest musical theatre composer/lyricists of all time. There is truly now a Giant in the Sky.’’ Northern Ireland Opera are delighted to be bringing one of Stephen Sondheim’s most loved musicals to @lyricbelfast in February. ‘Into the Woods’ promises to be a real highlight for audiences in 2022: a wonderfully intriguing show that brings together and intertwines some of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel, to ask what might have happened before “Once upon a time” and after “Happily ever after”. ‘Into The Woods’ follows three highly successful productions each February by Northern Ireland Opera at the Lyric Theatre Belfast: ‘The Threepenny Opera’ in 2018, ‘Sweeney Todd’ in 2019 and ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ in 2020. We look forward to welcoming audiences old and new to this latest production, opening on 9th February 2022. More information and tickets available via the bio link. What a wonderful night last night at the premiere for 'Old Friends and Other Days' at @strandartscentre for the @belfastfilmfestival. So many thanks to our fabulous cast of singers, dancers, musicians and actors and our incredible creatives and technical teams who worked under stringent covid protocols last March to make this film happen - it was so good to see some of them at the premiere last night! Huge thanks to the @artscouncilni whose Renewal and Stability Fund is how we were able to make the film in the first place and to @causeway_pictures, @outpostbelfast and @starttogetherstudio for the hours of recording, filming and post-production that have brought the film to life. And of course, a thousand thanks to our brilliant Artistic DIrector @cameronmenziesdirector: Old Friends and Other Days was his original concept and he directed it straight out of quarantine after relocating here from his home in Australia, mid-lockdown. We look forward to sharing it with wide audiences before too much longer. @cameronmenziesdirector @katewatkins @colinrichmonddesign @sineadokmezzo @carolyn_dobbin_mezzo @marymccabesoprano @soprano_morwood @harding49 @clarakerr5 @vasilikistasinaki @michael_mce @mcgreevymaeve photo credit James Ward @lostlenscaps . . . . .#operafilm #oldfriendsandotherdays #premiere #belfast #belfastfilm #belfastartfilm #opera #operasingers #operalife #operaperformance #mezzo #soprano #williamvincentwallace #williambalfe #balfe #irishcomposers #classicalmusicfilm #song #irishsong #northernireland #northernirelandculture #northernirishsingers
