Carla Murphy

Carla is a classical and musical theatre trained soprano based in Belfast and is trained by mezzo soprano Debra Stuart and soprano Alice Johnston. She is currently attending Aquinas Diocesan Grammar school as an upper sixth student, for which she has conducted the folk choir while also getting involved with the chamber choir, octet and senior choir and singing various solos for different services locally. Carla played the lead classical singing role of ‘Hope Harcourt’ in her school musical ‘Anything Goes’ in October 2022.

Carla performed as the solo role of ‘Angel’ in “Handel’s Messiah” with the Ulster Orchestra and Belfast Philharmonic choir, both conducted by Nicholas Chalmers in the Waterfront hall in December 2022 and also performed as part of the chorus in Ulster Operatic’s “Evita” in the Grand Opera House in September 2023. She is currently a member of Belfast Conservatoire conducted by Matthew Owens, where she has performed various solos including “Mozart’s Coronation Mass” and “The Sound of Music”. Carla participated in the ‘Composers in the Classroom’ programme with the Chamber Choir of Ireland in February 2023 and also in January 2024 which was conducted by Matthew Quinn. She has performed in the Royal Albert Hall and the National Concert Hall in Dublin along side West End star, Alfie Boe and she has also performed with Kerry Ellis in the Ulster Hall; both opportunities arising with JH Academy including an upcoming production of “We Will Rock You” in March 2024, which Carla will be starring as the lead role of “Oz”.

Carla looks forward to her professional debut with NI Opera which will be in the upcoming production of Phillip Glass’ “The Juniper Tree” in the Grand Opera House Studio in February 2024.
