James Cooper

A bass born and based in Belfast, James brings a breadth of chorus experience. Having joined NI Opera in their 2018 and 2019 productions of Rigoletto and Die Fledermaus respectively, James has also sung with the Belfast Philharmonic Choir with concert performances including Brahms’ German Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Handel’s Messiah, and recently joining Cappella Caeciliana for their performance of Bach’s St John Passion to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

James is a part of the original cast for the award-winning Abomination: A DUP Opera directed by local composer Conor Mitchell with The Belfast Ensemble, performing this work in the Lyric Theatre in 2019, at Electric Picnic in 2022, and will be performing this work again in 2023. James also performed with The Belfast Ensemble for Propaganda: A New Musical which debuted in the Lyric Theatre in 2022.
