James Henry
James started his training at the Royal National College for the Blind (R.N.C.B.) in Hereford in January 1984. The course was quite extensive, taking in many subjects, such as tuning, repairs, piano construction, physics, history etc. The College had over 140 pianos on campus which ranged from early 18th century right up to modern day instruments. He received tutoring from Mr. Philip Kennedy. At the end of the three years James was awarded a diploma with credit.
After leaving college in November 1986 James started his own business as a piano tuner and technician in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim. Since then he has been servicing and tuning pianos all over Northern Ireland. James now works for several piano dealers offering them support and advice especially when trading in second hand instruments. James also tunes for quite a lot of Churches, Schools and Colleges, Universities, Recording studios and private clients.
James is the main tuner for the Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Halls, Ulster Orchestra and BBC NI. Preparing concert pianos for professional recordings and performances is his speciality.
