‘Tiny, ambitious Northern Ireland Opera punching far above its weight in Tchaikovsky’s perfect opera’

Northern Ireland Opera are thrilled to have been chosen as number three in the top ten classical concerts and operas of 2024, as selected by critic Fiona Maddocks in The Observer, for our production of ‘Eugene Onégin’ at The Grand Opera House.

This is the second time we have made this prestigious list, with ‘La Traviata’ also being chosen in 2022, both directed by Northern Ireland Opera’s Artistic Director, Cameron Menzies.

Thank you to everyone who brought this fabulous opera to life on stage at The Grand Opera House, Belfast , from our brilliant artists, creatives and technicians on and off stage, The Northern Ireland Opera Chorus, and the Orchestra of Northern Ireland Opera conducted by Dominic Limburg. Thank you also to our wonderful audiences with over 4000 people seeing the production across the four performances and our community dress rehearsal.

We are so proud to have been able to showcase the incredible talent we have here in Northern Ireland in this selection from across the whole of the UK this year. Thank you to our principal funder, The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, without whose support we would not be able to stage this major production and the Garfield Weston Foundation for their funding for our outreach work around this production.
